It can seem glamorous, exciting and productive. It can also consist of late nights, early mornings, too many late meals or fast food and the feeling of missing out on things at home. In my 25+ years as a professional speaker, I have flown over 3.5 million miles to over 1000 events in every state in the US, every province of Canada and 9 countries. Throughout this time, I have been creating strategies to make the most of my travel experience and stay switched on no matter where I am.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is easy for road warriors to fall into unhealthy habits when flying or driving for business travel. It can also feel isolated or lonely. When you\u2019re pulled out of your regular routine and are away from your regular home comforts (like a kitchen) and home responsibilities, you might turn to food you don\u2019t normally eat, increased alcohol and decreased exercise. Plus, with fear of coronavirus, there is extra stress over air travel. There are some great resources out there right now from <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/coronavirus\/2019-ncov\/travelers\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the CDC<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and health professionals about <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.worldaware.com\/resources\/advice\/basic-health-precautions-avoid-infection\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">health precautions you can take<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. <\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Despite all this, I firmly believe that you can be Switched On when traveling.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">From one seasoned road warrior to another, here are my top business travel tips to make your experience the best it can be.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"688\" height=\"387\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/d4KSKtymZWM?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h4><strong>The Get Switched On Travel Checklist<\/strong><\/h4>\n<h6>Pack Smart<\/h6>\n<ol>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Carry on when you can<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If checking a bag, be sure you have the basics in a carry on<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pack workout gear &#8211; <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/B01IBIZFRA\/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&amp;psc=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I always take these exercise bands <\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2013 you can get a full workout anywhere<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Quality toiletry bag you can hang that\u2019s pre-packed with essentials you may need (Aleve, Cortisone Cream, Allergy Pills, Vitamins, Coldease etc.)<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Bring a cooler, pre-pack with healthy snacks, protein shakes etc.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pack sanitizing wipes to wipe down your airplane seat area<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pack items like <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/B07R3VL7F4\/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&amp;psc=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Amazing Grass Green Superfood<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0 or <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/B07221P9GJ\/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&amp;psc=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Organic Beet Powder<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> packets you can add to water to create a fresh juice<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Invest in quality headphones. <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/B00X9KW4PW\/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&amp;psc=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Bose Quiet Comfort Noise Cancelling EAR BUD headphones<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> are AMAZING!!! MUCH better than the over the ear variety for long flights.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h6>Be Safe<\/h6>\n<ol>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Be sure you have a hands free phone for the car<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Don\u2019t leave valuables in your car, you just never know<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h6>Work Your Brain and Practice Habits to Encourage Personal Growth<\/h6>\n<ol>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pre-select audiobooks or podcasts to listen to that align with your goals and work your brain<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Use the plane as a retreat away from connectedness, read, listen to podcasts<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Seek out opportunities to meet interesting people, \u201cTell me your story\u201d is my go to question<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h6>Move<\/h6>\n<ol>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Move every hour on long flights, make sure to schedule time for stops on long drive<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Stay in a hotel with a gym, map out a run or long walk to explore the city, or even find some good guided workouts on YouTube or an app<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h6>Make Healthy Choices<\/h6>\n<ol>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Limit alcohol consumption on the airplane and airline lounges \u2013 drink a lot of water or similar hydrating beverages \u2013 my go to drink is Club Soda and CranApple juice with a lime<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Point air vent at you on plane for fresh air<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Look at menus and food options in the areas you\u2019ll be. Be pre-selecting your meal locations when you can, you\u2019re less likely to order expensive room service or unhealthy takeout<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h6>Make It Easy<\/h6>\n<ol>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sign-up for TSA Global Entry that includes Pre Check<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you fly a lot like I do get the CLEAR membership for even QUICKER airport check-ins<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Set up your profile at the hotel in advance, taking advantage of their perks<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h6>Be Positive<\/h6>\n<p>Today will be a great day, and while yes, tough things will happen when you travel, attitude can make all the difference!<\/p>\n<p><strong>If you travel for work, being on the road is a given.
